Indian food is one of my favourites, so when my friend made this slow cooker version for my family we were head over heels! I don’t think I’ve had a Butter Chicken that I’ve liked more. It’s wonderful to put into the slow cooker in the morning and come home to the warm Indian spice smell. Serve with basmati rice and warm naan bread. The favourite dish of my daughter Molly, this is a super easy slow cooker chicken dinner to make. Joe grew up in Walsall, England and after studying to be a Chef at the Birmingham College of Food, Joe moved to Spain to further his career. He found his true passion for both food and travel while living in Spain.
He returned to Birmingham to work in fine dining cuisine for a year before heading off to Australia to work in Sydney, Port Douglas and Melbourne. Dana is General Manager and Owner of The Styx. She joined The Styx in 2015 and has fallen in love with the people, the food and the community in New Zealand. Joe and Dana work side by side to ensure that each guest feels at home when they walk through the door.
Dana grew up in Minnesota and studied Finance and Investment Banking at the University of Wisconsin Madison. She spent three years with J. Morgan before feeling the need to see the world. Tony is an Australian who moved to Queenstown 36 years ago to become a ski instructor. In 1994, he opened The Boardwalk Seafood Restaurant in Queenstown and in 2004, with Head Chef Mike Doran, he opened Hamill’s Restaurant in Queenstown. In 2012, Tony and Joe opened The Styx in Nelson while Tony remained focused on the day to day operations of Hamill’s.

We have worked very hard to make your time with us as relaxing and fun as it can be. We want you to feel relaxed like you have just arrived at you family holiday home and the good times have started. Our food is simple with bold flavours. With our burgers we like to use flavours that most kiwis will be familiar with. It’s about familiarity and comfort rather than experimental combinations. The Running Duck burgers are made with plenty of love.

Of course there is some other local magic in there too. We keep our burgers simple and accessible with familiar, bold flavours. In fact we love it so much we make it right here at The Running Duck. We dry cure it like they did in the olden days. It’s not pumped full of water.
We rub our salt mixture on pork bellies and let them cure for about a week. Serving freshly battered fish and rustic Makikihi fries, our fish and chip van operates from 5-8pm Thursday to Sunday. Ever had a kick in the nuts? Well, it’s a great start to any day. A shot of real coffee, peanut butter and our homemade chocolate syrup along with vanilla ice cream. This milkshake is one of our favourites.
